Leslie Uggams and her husband, Grahame Pratt, celebrated their 57th anniversary and the life they share as proud parents of two kids and a bunch of grandkids! “He’s smart and witty and fearless. We laugh all the time — but it ain’t always roses. We have fun together,” Uggams once gushed about her one and only lifetime love. When the couple met, no one could have imagined that almost six decades of unconditional love lay ahead of them. They feared how their families would react to their relationship. And indeed, the reaction was not unequivocal. After much deliberation, Uggams decided to marry Pratt despite all the hardships she faced. She understood it was a huge responsibility to take on a mixed marriage like theirs. They wed in 1965 when interracial marriage was still illegal in 17 states of America so the couple received a lot of hate mail. They also lost their first child. Uggams described in detail how her mom and mother-in-law treated each other. She was also faced with three major issues. –
